Managing Student Content (in the News Feed)

iSchoolMusic.org The News Feed is a technology that your students already know well. It is the same technology used on Facebook and Twitter. A News Feed is a stream of small (140 character or less) comments between everyone in a network. So for iSchoolBand, it is a group dialogue between all of the members of your band family. The content of this dialogue is the topic of this post.

We suggest you let everyone know up front that your iSchoolBand network is for band stuff only. In addition to telling them in class, you can also post a comment about it in the “What’s on your mind” box found on your personal homepage. All of your students will see it. To much random posting can be a bad thing, but when monitored and utilized correctly, it can be a very beneficial and will keep everyone on the same page.

It will be impossible to keep it “chatter” free 100% of the time, but the truth is a bit of random dialogue is good for community building.

Also in case you were wondering, the network has a full content filter to make sure no profanities can be used. You can add to the content filter’s list of profanities yourself in the account settings.
Love,
iSchoolBand
